Looking back on our famine relief efforts earlier this year, I thank the Lord for the way he used all those who gave from their hearts and for the way the local churches and village leaders here helped with coordinating the distribution.
The distribution ran from January 2012 to May 2012. We distributed a total of 335 sacks of maize corn. We were able to help a total of 1,152 families/individuals. 439 of those people fell under the category of extremely poor, orphans, or widows. They received free food. The rest were able to purchase food at a 50% subsidized cost. We were able to purchase more food with the money generated, thus helping more people at the subsidized or free rate, and in the end, we have 2,329,000 Tanzanian shillings (about $1,474 USD) left in the account to help purchase seed for planting during this next season.
